Looking for a recommendation
#1
Big Grin
Hi, new to the group. We are looking at purchasing a treadmill, but with so many choices and so many different views, it is hard to tell which one is right for us. We plan to use for walking only - and want a good one, not some garbage. Any recommendations?
We have thought about the NordicTrack, but we read a lot of bad stuff on them. We also hear a lot of negativity on ProForm, as well as some of the Key Fitness companies too.

Any help will be much appreciated.

Thanks,

Craig

Purchasing a treadmill, in many ways depends on what you plan on using it for. Obviously if you are training for a marathon you'll want something much more heavy duty. You stated you would be walking on the treadmill.

Let me first start by saying that we here at our repair shop refer to any treadmill costing less than about $1500 as disposable, kind of like a cheap microwave or TV. If it breaks you just throw it away and don't worry about repairing it... That being said, you can buy extented warranty plans on cheaper units, but sometimes getting service on your machine can be a laborsome experience as the cheap treadmill companies a lot of times will use the cheapest servicer in a market.

If you are an avid walker and will want minimal break downs and a nice treadmill, you'll want to go to a fitness specialty store and shop around. True Fitness treadmills are known as the quietest treadmills if that's something you want. Precor, Life Fitness, Landice... these are all good brands. Above $2000 (excluding Cybex) most residential treadmills are of good quality and it's just what features you like ie. width/length of the walking surface, amount of noise, heart rate control, and other factors.

If you won't care if your machine is down for a month at a time every year or two, you can go with a cheaper treadmill from Sears or someplace like that and MAKE SURE YOU PURCHASE THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. If you use your treadmill everyday you will get your money out of your extended warranty on a cheaper treadmill.

And lastly you mentioned a few brands in your post. Nordic Track, Proform, Lifestyler, Weslo, Image - These are all the same company...just like Pontiac, Chevy, GMC, Cadillac are all the same company. All those treadmill brands are made by Icon, if you're concerned about one of those brands, be concerned about all of them.
