Sounds like an issue with the console. It may have or may be failing. See if you can get into calibration mode. Remove the safety key. Press and hold stop and speed up while simultaneously reinserting the safety key. Press stop once to get to speed calibration. No need to proceed with the calibration at this point, let's just see if you can get to it.
